Jesús Vicente Aguirre González is the best-known researcher working on the repression in La Rioja during the Civil War and Postwar periods. He has written a series of three books on this subject under the general title of Aquí nunca pasó nada. La Rioja, 1936 (2000–2014). He is a member of the Asociación La Barranca , which was established to recover and preserve the historical memory of La Rioja. Among his other publications the most important are La Rioja empieza a caminar: apuntes sobre el proceso autonómico riojano (Editorial Ochoa, Logroño 2000. ISBN 9788473595100) and his recent novel Lo que pasó (Historia de una saca del 36) (Editorial Pepitas de Calabaza, Logroño 2019. ISBN 9788417386221). In the 1970s, as a songwriter and singer he was a member of the group “Carmen, Jesús y Iñaki” who sang protest and folk songs (the other members were his wife Carmen Medrano and Iñaki Ramos. Among their compositions was La Rioja existe, pero no es , which became the local anthem of La Rioja .
