Archivo Intermedio Militar Noroeste
Description
The Archivo Intermedio Militar Noroeste (Northwestern Intermediary-Level Military Archives) are a state archive which form part of the Archive System of the Ministry of Defence and are a dependency of the Instituto de Historia y Cultura Militar. The Archives’ function is to contribute to the protection, organisation, conservation and promotion of the national heritage. Under a Royal Decree of 1988, the Archives have a public character, accessible for purposes of research. The Archives receive documentation which has been closed for more than five years from the central archives of the military units and organisations in the following autonomous communities: Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Galicia, La Rioja and País Vasco. The Archives hold the documentation of the prosecutions and corresponding judicial procedures of the organs of military justice covering northern Spain which came under the jurisdiction of Tribunal Militar Territorial 4º, which is based in A Coruña. The Archives contain documentation covering 9.000 metres of shelving.
