Víctimas enterradas en el Valle de los Caídos
Description
The dataset Victims Buried in the Valle de los Caídos, or Valley of the Fallen, with 20,324 case files, has been taken from a list derived from Mapa de Fosas del Ministerio de Justicia from nomesevoces.net , which is an inter-university research project on the Civil War and the Francoist repression in Galicia. The list includes the names which appear in the Registers of the Abadía de la Santa Cruz of Valle de los Caídos . These registers contain details of the remains which were transferred to the Valle de los Caídos between 17 March 1959 and 3 July 1983. According to the Abbey , the exact total number of remains is unknown. However, the registers contain details of 33,833 people, victims from both sides of the conflict, whose remains were transferred in 491 deliveries from mass graves and cemeteries from every province of Spain apart from Orense, La Coruña, Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to be re-interred in collective and individual tombs. The remains of 21,423 victims are identified, but those of the remaining 12,410 are not. In many cases, the remains were transferred without the consent or even the knowledge of the families , especially when the victims had been on the republican side. The list has also been published on the webpages of the Asociación para la Recuperación de la Memoria Histórica (ARMH).
